MamaAnne wins an iF Design Award 2025

The birth simulator MamaAnne has been awarded a prestigious iF Design Award 2025. "This is a significant recognition and shows that our focus on good design and user-friendliness is important," says Bram van Krieken, Design Director at Laerdal Medical.

MamaAnne wins an iF Design Award

MamaAnne stood out among thousands of international entries with its innovative design, usability, and great importance for training in maternal care and emergency situations. The jury evaluated the products based on five criteria: differentiation, form, function, idea, and sustainability, with MamaAnne achieving a total score of 320 points, far above the winning threshold. "MamaAnne is developed to make a difference where it is needed the most – in response to increasing maternal mortality and the need for better training in childbirth assistance," says Bram van Krieken.

The award is the result of close collaboration between interdisciplinary teams at Laerdal Medical and Limbs & Things.

Quality Stamp

The iF Design Award is regarded as a global quality stamp for outstanding design. This is not the first time Laerdal Medical's products have won the award; previously, the Little Anne CPR manikin for lay people and the RQI-P Go Simulation Station – a mobile solution for self-directed (re)certification in CPR skills – have also won. For medical equipment, the award means:

Better patient outcomes: Award-winning design often contributes to safer, more effective treatment and training.

Global recognition: The iF Design Award receives thousands of entries annually from around the world and serves as an international benchmark for innovation.

Trust and credibility: The award confirms a high standard of quality and user focus.

Competitive advantage: Products with the iF mark stand out in the market and gain increased visibility.

A breakthrough in training simulation

MamaAnne is a highly realistic birth simulator developed for training healthcare professionals in childbirth processes and acute obstetric situations. It is intuitive to use, easy to clean – even in scenarios with heavy bleeding – and designed to provide a realistic and effective learning experience. "We are incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together and hope MamaAnne will contribute to better preparedness and safer births worldwide," says van Krieken.
